Hi, I'm Mr. Cooke.
I earned a Master’s in Special Education from Chapman University in Southern California, with a Master’s in Education in 2004, and then we moved to the Atlanta area the same year. This is my fourth year at WBMS, and prior to that, I taught at Lake Windward ES for 11 years.
When I'm not teaching, I love making music with my wife and sons at home and at church. I love playing board games (Splendor, Scrabble, Qwirkle, Risk, etc.).
Teaching Philosophy
I believe all students--anyone--can learn. I believe life-long learning; I model curiosity in my classroom. In my classroom, I want my students to learn facts, learn how to use those facts--to think about, argue about, discuss those facts. I want my students to think critically and globally to see issues from more than just their own vantage point.
I believe in order to learn, one has to be "curious" and "safe." My classroom is a safe place for my students; there is no such thing as a "dumb" question. Hurtful speech is not allowed. My classroom is not "colorblind," it is "colorful" and "color-valuing."
